We’ve been dreaming for several years of owning the three-story house next door to us. The older woman who lived there for 30 years had been widowed for the last 13 years and the house had come into disrepair. We’ve known for about a year that she was considering moving, and through a number of conversations and negotiations, our family closed on the property on October 25, 2021. Now to begin the renovations – the 100 year old roof was made of Ludovici clay tiles that had been painted an antique green. We found the same tiles that had been removed from another 100-year-old house. In the photo, you can see the roofers replacing tiles that had been damaged and the decking below. This house will have new electrical, new plumbing, renovated kitchen, refinished floors, and the works when it’s complete.

The Pink House (as we have named it), has its own Instagram page where you can see more of the renovations.

South Boulevard-Park Row is an officially designated Historical District in Dallas. It was originally built in the 1920s by Jewish merchants who owned businesses in downtown Dallas. This particular home was owned by a descendant of the Sanger Family (of Sanger Harris fame). Other houses were built by the Marcuses, the Blackburns and other prominent families. Their synagogue stands two blocks over in disrepair.
